Protection of Personal Data

1. Controller

2. What data we process, why and on what basis

a) Website operation and server logs. On every visit the web server automatically records technical data (IP address, date and time, requested address, referring page, browser and device type). Purpose: operation, security and troubleshooting. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Retention: with the current hosting settings, logs are normally deleted automatically after approximately 14 days; we keep them longer only if this is necessary to deal with a specific security incident.

b) Storing your cookie choice. The mg_consent cookie stores your choice in the cookie bar (see section 6). Legal basis: compliance with a legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) – the controller’s obligation to demonstrate consent (Art. 7(1) GDPR); storing this cookie is technically necessary and does not require consent (Section 89(3) of Czech Act No. 127/2005 Coll., on Electronic Communications). Retention: 180 days.

c) Audience measurement (Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity) – only with your consent. If you allow analytics cookies in the cookie bar, we load Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity via Google Tag Manager. Without consent, or after you reject it, these tools are not loaded and send nothing. Purpose: to learn how many visitors the website has, where they come from (including social media campaigns), which guides they view, when they start a preview and when they click a store link. Clarity also creates heatmaps and recordings of on-page movement; all texts and inputs are masked. We do not store names, email addresses or other direct identifiers. Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Retention: Google Analytics data 14 months; Clarity data according to Microsoft’s settings (session recordings 30 days, aggregated data 13 months).

d) Marketing. We use no marketing tools or cookies. Google’s advertising features (advertising cookies, sending data for advertising and ad personalisation) are switched off.

e) Email communication. If you write to us, we process your email address and the content of your message to handle your enquiry. Legal basis: legitimate interest. Retention: as long as needed to handle the enquiry, at most 3 years after it is resolved; longer only if necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims or if required by law.

f) Website content. Fonts, images, videos and scripts are loaded from our hosting. The website embeds no third-party content (e.g. Google Fonts, external videos or maps) and has no forms or comments.

3. Links to external stores

The website links to e-book stores: Apple Books (apple.co, books.apple.com) and Google Play (play.google.com) in all languages; on Czech pages also Palmknihy (palmknihy.cz), Kosmas (kosmas.cz) and Alza (alza.cz). The footer links to the publisher iPublishing (ipublishing.cz). Merely displaying these links sends no data to these operators; after you click, the policy of the respective website applies.

4. Recipients and processors

• ACTIVE 24, s.r.o. (Sokolovská 394/17, Prague 8) – website hosting, acting as our processor under Art. 10 of its terms and conditions. The website runs in data centres in the EU. Active24 may use subcontractors (mainly companies in its group) and, under its terms, also subcontractors outside the EU; in that case the transfer is safeguarded by EU standard contractual clauses.
• Google Ireland Limited (Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager) and Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited (Clarity) – only with your consent to analytics cookies. Data may be transferred to the USA; both companies are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

We do not sell personal data.

5. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict processing and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. You may withdraw consent at any time; this does not affect processing before withdrawal. The right to data portability applies only to data processed by automated means on the basis of consent or contract – for us this concerns only consent-based audience measurement. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů), Pplk. Sochora 27, 170 00 Prague 7, www.uoou.cz.

6. Cookies and changing your consent

The website uses these cookies:

The cookie is stored only when you choose „Accept all“, „Reject all“ or „Save choice“ in the cookie bar. It contains no name, email or other identifier and is not sent to third parties.

Changing or withdrawing consent. You can change your choice at any time via the „Cookie settings“ link in the footer of every page. The new choice replaces the previous one and is valid for another 180 days. If you withdraw consent to analytics cookies, Google Analytics and Clarity stop loading and we delete their cookies on our website.

Deleting in your browser. You can delete or block cookies at any time in your browser settings. After mg_consent is deleted, the cookie bar appears again. Blocking this cookie does not limit the website; we simply will not remember your choice.
